You know the feeling of when you have awesome productivity.  You feel like you can take on the world; you are unstoppable! I think we all have something in our lives that we could do all day long with no worry of losing motivation.

Why can’t it be that easy for all of our goals? Why can’t we just apply the formula we use with one goal to the next and get busy? Let’s face it. It’s natural to have an area of your life where you are just feeling uninspired, bored, or overwhelmed.  It can be frustrating, but the positive thing is when you recognize that something isn’t working, that’s the start of a positive shift.

So how do we reset? How can we make things better? Let’s look at these tips to get into your groove of productivity!

6 Hot Tips To Find Your Groove of Productivity

  1. Get Clear On The Goal
Before getting started, I encourage you to first get super clear on what you want your end result to be.  Be specific as possible. So if you want to write a book, write out a date that you will get the draft completed with how many words you need to write to complete that draft. For a health related goal, it could be that you want the weight loss to be a specific amount by a certain date.  You get the picture.  For the goal you want to accomplish, get as clear as possible.
  2. You Must Have The Energy
This is one of the areas that you must get real with yourself.  Do you have energy to actually take on this goal? Easy to say you will when the result you want sounds so amazing, but often after the excitement wears off, you then have that ah-ha moment of how much work it is going to be to achieve that particular goal. So a decision needs to be made. Do you need to remove something off your plate? Do you need to get more sleep? Do you need to put your own self care much higher on your priority list?
  3. Have The Best Tools and Systems In Place
Let’s face it. You can have all the motivation in the world to get a goal done, but if you don’t have the right tools and systems, you will get frustrated and there are going to be a ton of roadblocks along the way. For example, if you want to increase your client base by 40% and you start rocking the connections and you don’t have a good system to keep track of calls, follow-up etc., at some point, all is going to come crashing down on you. If you have an exercise goal of running a half marathon and you start running in the wrong shoes, your efforts may be stopped due to an injury. With the right tools and systems in place, you are more likely to rock that productivity.
  4. Time Blocking
For many people, if it’s not written down or part of their daily schedule, they won’t do it. Or they let the distractions of life get to them. Is this you? Time blocking does two things. First, by writing it down, it becomes part of your priorities.  You write down a doctor’s appointment right? Make your goal important.  Secondly, by doing time blocking it is helping you break down the goal in chunks so that you don’t get overwhelmed. So for example, if your goal is to declutter your home, by putting it down on the calendar you are putting importance to it and you can break down which rooms you will do on each day so that you spread out the work that needs to be completed.
  5. Shut Down The Distractions
I encourage you to really look at what takes you off your highest productivity during the day and find a way to shut it down completely or as best as you can. You may think that certain things don’t distract you, like email and social media notifications, but if you really took a look at how much time those things take you off your productivity, it would likely be a lot. Do what you can to create an environment of focus.
  6. Establish a Reward System
You know you like rewards and gifts! Make your goal fun. Have something at the end of the day that you will look forward to if you get your goal accomplished.  So instead of buying that latte at a fancy coffee place ‘just because’, maybe that’s a reward one day for a productive day.  Maybe that favorite tv program you like to watch is what the reward is ‘once’ you complete your goal for the day. In addition to the short day-to-day rewards, maybe figure out a big goal for when you complete the entire thing. Like a vacation or a purchase of some sort. Make sure whatever it is, it motivates you.

USA Best Selling Author Regan Black  says “I discovered my writing groove and took my productivity to a new level when I gave myself permission to follow my strengths as a writer. Rather than force my process to match someone else’s expectations, I embraced what worked best for me and kept at it.”

Robert and Marlas Sells of Words of Inspiration Ministries says:  “In order to stay focused we turn off the television when we’re working and sometimes put on worship music to increase focus. We have also learned the hard way not to work on too many projects at one time.  This keeps us focused until we are done and ready to move onto the next project.”
