7 Habits That Set You Up For Success Each Day

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a lot going on in my life right now.  I am grateful and blessed to say that it is amazingly great stuff, but I am definitely in busy times between work and family. Can you relate regarding your schedule right now? Do you have tons to do and could use some reminders or maybe new tips to help set you up for success each day?

People often ask me how I get so much accomplished, therefore I hope these tips provide you some new ideas or reminders on how you can best set-up your day for success.

7 Habits That Set You Up For Success Each Day

  1. Get Up Early – If you want to set yourself up for success, you’ve got to get out of bed and be ready for it! Set your alarm early, get up and brew yourself an awesome cup of coffee and give yourself plenty of time to set yourself up for a fantastic, productive day. No more sleeping late! Commit to this! NY 02
  2. Exercise First Thing in the Morning – The most important thing regarding self-care is that you just do it and are consistent with it. I know many successful people that do exercise later in the day. But for me, exercising in the morning is the BEST thing I do to set myself up for success. I feel healthy. I feel strong. I feel focused for the rest of the day.  The key is you’ve got to make time for it. It’s really important to do it. Put exercise as part of your action plan for the day.
  3. Design Your Action Plan for the Day – I believe 100% that if you want to have a successful day, you’ve got to be focused on what you will accomplish. Putting together an action plan can help you keep focused and accountable and moving way forward on your goals.
  4. Give Yourself Wiggle Room – As we all know, things come up during the day that are way outside of what we often plan for the day. I have personally learned to plan for the unexpected; I expect challenges! So when setting up your schedule for the day, try not to book yourself so tightly. Give yourself some wiggle room for those pesky things that come up that you have to do!
  5. Be Sure To Time Block – Successful people do not waste time! So what are your biggest distractions and time wasters? Is it social media by chance? Or checking email? Get into time blocking. Put aside certain times of the day for social media for example and shut it down during other parts of the day. I guarantee you’ll get much more done.
  6. Communicate / Focus on Relationships – Each day, consider setting up a plan on how you will inspire and empower at least one person each day. I believe that a large part of my success has to do with the relationships I have built and maintained.
  7. Give Yourself Learning and Growing Time – Even if it’s 5 or 10 minutes per day, take time each day to get inspired, learn and grow by reading a book, inspiring magazine or listen to an awesome audio. Successful people love to learn and grow. Invest in yourself!

Which habits above do you most resonate with?  What are your best habits that set you up for success each day? What do you need to do more of? I really look forward to hearing from you!

    Hi Cynthia
Great post. I am a firm believer in lists. We all have dreams and goals but writing them down is a form of commitment and they becomes dreams with a deadline.
When I write out a to do list I allow a little ‘wiggle room’ basically because I believe nothing is under control, something can always come along and ruin or delay the best laid plans. So anything that is incomplete or still needing work goes at the TOP of the list for next day.

Nice post and a great checklist for achievement.

Thank you Dave for your comments. I absolutely have to do a list in order for me to be productive for the day. I am glad you do them as well and leave that wiggle room. YES. Things always come up! Have a GREAT day and I appreciate you taking the time to comment!

I’ve just changed around my schedule in the past few weeks to start with exercise first thing instead of waiting until later in the day. Definitely a smart move! Starts the day with a burst of energy that can’t be beat. Excellent! Will be sharing 🙂

Thank you so much Alli for your comments! I really do recommend doing exercise first thing in the morning. I think you will see a big difference! I appreciate you my friend!

Getting up early is a huge key. Agreed. I LOVE sleeping. Who doesn’t, right? I think having to get up early for my job is great for me otherwise I would sleep the day away 🙂 But I am also a night person, so that doesn’t help! After I get home around noon and sit down, it’s all over! 🙂 Nap time.

Great comments Geoff! Made me smile today for sure… YES, I really do love sleeping as well but to be productive getting up early is key for me! Have a great day. You are appreciated Geoff.

Great article and advice, Cynthia, to help us make the most of every day! #6 and #7 really resonate with me right now and I believe they go hand in hand. It’s necessary to take the time to learn so we can be our best selves, and sharing that with others is part of the growth process. It completes the cycle when we make time to support and encourage the people we meet along the way each day. 🙂

    Hi Cynthia,

I absolutely agree with your seven point list. I especially like #6 Communicate/Focus on Relationships. The reason is that this is an area that I focus on all throughout each day. Its not just for a certain period of time. Communicating and building relationships is almost a “way of life”.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Great article Cynthia

I currently have a lot going on right now so #5 resonates with me. It’s definitely important to prioritize time and to not get sucked into stuff that distracts me.

This is a great post, Cynthia! You hit the “nail on the head” again. I love number 7: I drive a lot for my job, so I decided to quit paying $15 a month for unlimited music and started paying $15 a month for audiobooks.com, so I can listen to leadership material while I am traveling. This allows me to be productive at times when I would otherwise not be. I need to start getting up earlier again, however, as I used to get up between 5:00am-5:30am, but have slipped in that regard lately. This was a nice motivational boost to get back to it tomorrow!

I’m right there with you on every point. I wonder why?!?!?! Of course the answer is because I have been in on you mentoring for the last 9 months and followed you even before that. While all seven points are excellent and should be given priority, I think the one that resonates most with me right now is Design an Action Plan for your day. It’s important to not just plan, but stay on course and also do what you say you will. Those distractions are wicked when it comes to planning your work and working your plan.

    Hi Cynthia
Great blog and I agree with you about lists they get you organized and help the world go round.
Of course they’re only a plan and you need to stay focused on them in order to achieve your aims and final goals.
I definitely agree with No’s 5 and 7 both are invaluable and essential everyday.
Thanks as always for the inspiration and motivation.

Cindy – Having worked with you for several years and seeing you grow as a person both professionally and in your personal life I can truly attest to the fact that you live by the values and lessons you are providing to young women.. actually most also apply to us men. I have learned so much from you and strongly urge others to try some of the ideas and approaches to life that you live by.. they will pay off as they have for you.. I was lucky to have you on my team and will be following your work. I’ve forwarded all of the blog I could to my 21 year old daughter who is in her senior year of college.. i would love nothing better for her than to adopt and follow the path you provide to young women. It’s clearly a recipe for success.

Thank you so much Bill for your comments. What an awesome surprise to get your feedback. I have absolutely learned from the best, meaning that so much of what I have learned throughout the years came from you. You have always been a huge inspiration to me. There is no one better to work with. I truly mean that. Thank you for your continual, awesome leadership and friendship. I am very grateful.

Thank you for this article! It’s really helpful! One more advice I would like to add is related to the tracking your progress. Every day I try to finish with finalizing my tasks and marking them as done. For that I usually use some project management tools like Basecamp and https://casual.pm/.

Thank you so much for your comment Mary. Much appreciated!
