One of the biggest things I see people struggle with on a day-to-day basis is keeping motivated to keep pushing forward on their goals. Is this you? Are you that person that starts really strong, but then loses interest or gets distracted by other things? Or do you just need a little ‘oomph’ to keep your major goals on the top of your mind? First I want to congratulate you if you recognize that you need some assistance in this area. It’s always about having a great mindset first right? But then the next important thing is taking action; finding that way for yourself to shift and propel yourself into action.
One of the things that helps me greatly, is to have something visual in front of me. For yourself, things that are written or visual in front of you can remind you of your ‘why’; the reason it’s so important for you to reach your goal. The thing is this. You’ve got to find something that works for you. What may work for one person may not work for you. So here are 5 ways to keep your goals in front of you. Hopefully at least one of the things gets you excited to apply so that you move way forward on your goals each day.
5 Focused Ways To Keep Your Goals In Front of You
- Have Your ‘Why’ Statement Everywhere
Sometimes you know what your goals are but distractions always seem to get in the way and you forget why it’s so important for you to get your goals completed. A ‘why’ statement makes it prioritized; critical for your happiness and success. So if you are looking to live a healthier lifestyle and get more fit, perhaps your ‘why’ is to do everything you can to live a healthy, strong life for your kids or maybe it’s to stop taking certain medications if you are on them. If your goal is to have a thriving business, your ‘why’ might be to pay off remaining debt within a certain date or to create a freedom based lifestyle. If this tip resonates with you, be sure to put your why statement in as many places as possible so you see it throughout the day. Some ideas: Have it posted in your office, written on the first page of your journal, inside your daily planner, on your refrigerator.
- Write An Intentional Focus Each Day
Sometimes having your why statement for the year just isn’t enough. It’s definitely something I believe everyone should have, but for me, I have to have a daily focus; a very short written out plan for the day. What I mean by this is having the most critical tasks that I need to complete in front of me.
- Inspiring Visual
Just like the first two, you would definitely want this to be right in front of you once you create it. What am I talking about when I say have an inspiring visual? Well, I want you to become creative with this, so take what I say and see how it can best be molded into what will inspire you. For an inspiring visual, have a picture or pictures in some form in front of you that remind you of the goal you want to achieve. So if you are on the mission to get more fit, perhaps putting a picture of yourself when you were at your healthiest and fittest in front of you. If you are looking to take a vacation to a tropical location this year, have a pic or multiple pics of your travel location. If you are looking to become debt free, have visuals that show what financial freedom looks like to you. The important thing on this is to have fun with it. You want these visuals to inspire you either on your desktop wallpaper, vision board, digital photo frame or some other place where you can display it.
- Creative Password
I absolutely love this idea and I want to encourage you to think about doing this one. I don’t know about you but I am always having to log-in to various websites with passwords. Why not create passwords that spell out your goals? So for example if you are looking to get ten paid speaking engagements this year, perhaps your password could be ‘TenPaidIn18’. Kind of get the picture? Create a password that means something to you that will give you that kick in the duff reminder to stay focused on your goals.
- Daily Accountability Partner
One of the best possible ways to keep moving forward on your goals is to have a daily accountability partner that is going to check in on you. This can be a reciprocal thing and actually this is the best way for an accountability partnership to work. Get connected with someone that you can reciprocate accountability. Keep one another focused each day! Send each other a text message, a video message or something that puts your goals on the top of your mind each day.
The main thing is this. Look at this list above and determine which one or more of these will help you keep better focused on moving forward on your goals. There are many other ways you can do this, but I thought these five can get you thinking on what can work for you. Make it fun and make it useful for you!
Which of these 5 ways most resonate with you and why? Do you have other ways that you do this? I would love to hear from you! Comment below!
